Re: Please Help identifying

Thank you for the reply guys!! Can you explain superstructure and broken shear? I have rigged many race style boats mostly older 41 Apaches. Never heard this terminology. The boat definitely has had a lot of work done. I don’t think they built them with honeycomb core in 71. The superstructure is r...

Re: Please Help identifying

Based on the hull ID you have starting with 210, the boat may originally have been a 25' Sea Raider. The 1050 in the hull ID may mean 1971 model year, and the 50th boat built. Someone really customized that thing as the superstructure and broken shear are definitely not production! See this post: ht...

Re: Port motor not starting

The last trip she had the port motor ran fine and when they went to start it back up to return to the dock it would not turn back over . If you are saying it simply won't crank, it might just be the neutral start switch. If the transmission is not in neutral, a marine engine won't crank. Check that...

Re: Crusader engine model 350 spark plugs?

Thanks prowlerfish. The plugs are black but not sooty. My mistake, the plugs in it are MR43T, not MR44T ( my misprint) I can't seem to find the AC plugs locally or on Amazon Canada. The Champion RV8C seem to be about 3 times as expensive on Amazon. Napa has the NGK crossover readily available acros...

Had one of mine replaced a few year back as well, and I believe 'my guy' made the new one out of oak.

Re: An Engine Issue

Check timing / advance. I had an issue a few years back where one of my distributors was not advancing properly so the engine just couldn't build up rpms no matter how far I pushed the throttle. Distributor rebuild fixed it.

Re: Fiberglass Thru Hall Repair

First off, I align my thoughts with prowlersfish - I am very focused on retaining history and keeping my boats as original as possible, but my mindset has always been to upgrade obsolete technology, especially when it is safety related. I would recommend you get yourself a more modern Depth / Speed ...

Re: “Whiny” Prop Shaft

If shaft was not truly straightened, that could be an issue. Engine / shaft / stuffing box / strut alignment... if your collision pushed any of that out of alignment, could also result in that. Had an issue for a couple years where one shaft seemed to have a harmonic drone when rotating at a certain...

Re: Prop sizes

Slightly different configuration, but my '79 F32 with Chrysler 360s (250hp) runs 16x16 cupped props.

Cruise speeds I get are around:
- 1500 RPM, 8 knots
- 2500 RPM, 15-15 knots
- 2800-3200 RPM sweet spot, usually 18-22 knots depending on conditions

Are you talking about this piece of the framing, that I think the top bearing (?) it attached to?

I believe in our config the rudder arm is above the top bearing, not below it as shown in this diagram.

Re: Twin Chrysler 318 Engine Survey Question

For what it's worth, if I was selling I would have concerns with someone wanting to go WOT for multiple reasons. First, I don't do that to my engines and while I realize some people may be thinking of it as a diagnostic, a) some people just think that's how you run a boat (esp. if they have only ope...
