I was in my tri-cabin today unloading the seasonal items for the winter. I opened the door to the hanging locker in the V-berth and saw something I had never seen before - and no it wasn't Jimmy Hoffa or Big Foot.

It is some sort of hand pump that is permanently mounted and looks like it pumps water from the front bilge to the bilge in the engine room. There is no choice as to where the water comes from and where it goes since the inlet and outlet are permanently installed. It has a long tube that is about 2" or 3" diameter and about 3 feet long.

Anyone know what it is?

Its a manual bilge pump it will pump over board ( if it still works ) most likely the seals a dried up .

Couldn't be Jimmy Hoffa - Arron ran over him last week on his way home with his new boat.

My F32 has a hand bilge pump mounted to the wall of the forward locker that simply pumps overboard - sure its not the same setup?

I belive all trojans came with them

Sounds like what it is, but how does it pump overboard? The outlet appears to go to the engine room bilge.

Paul is probably right that the seals are dry-rotted. I didn't try to mess with it since I had so much to do but was curious about what it is.

Mine also has this hand pump however mine is installed in the closet. The suction hose comes from the center of the bilge. The pressure side hose runs back down to the bilge but turns back on the other side of the bulkhead end exits thru the side of the hull. This is the pump that I refer to my manual bilge pump during a safety inspection. I believe that it's a factory installed pump.

I got a rebuild kit for mine - I'll look around and find the mode/part #'s.

Nice to have in case all power is lost ...

Good deal and I thot your comment about Aaron running over Jimmy Hoffa was a riot.

I want everything on my boat to be in working order and for some reason I have never seen that there. If you get part numbers I'll see if Bob has any.

There will be a Thu hull on the side of the boat

you can replace it pretty cheap if Bob can't get you the seals

I have the same pump in the closet in my vberth, there was also a spare in the back of my boat, I used mine to pump out my dingy this year. It seemed to work ok once it got wet, is there a chance water revitalises the seals?

water may swell the seals . I wonder if mineral oil would be good to use .

I don't seem to have one. Maybe someone took it out. I do have a forward bilge pump though with a seperate manual switch.

Mine has one and a forward pump ( I believe most do) maybe the did not put it in later models , but I do think a manual de-water device is need by law .

I really don't care if mine works or not as the last place I want to be if the boats filling up with water is the V-birth . I do have one of these pumps in the engine room that is laying lose to use any where

Same here Paul. I have one in the bilge that has a 3' piece of hose on it Maybe I could pump water out onto the salon floor lol

When I pull out in March I'm installing one of those de-watering engine seacocks. My insurance agent said he would give me a $80 discount a year.
