BIG D ---- I got your back!! Can't find the posts from a while back where you posted your pic of the Cdn Navy.... but I am offering up this ghost from the past as backup! Since it's almost launch time, don't need her guarding my storage shed anymore.

20F difference between home and the harbour today, contributed to the fog. Too cold to really do anything, so though I would at least capture the moment.
For the military/naval buffs who want to understand her history,

Okay, Okay, Okay.... WWII vintage, retired in '63 (before I was born!) But we had a bunch of 'em and this one still floats!!! And for the record, it and its crew did do a hell of a job. Nobody can, or has a right, to take that away. Every year they have a ceremony aboard for the vets that are still around.
Fast forward to 1994.... when I had to go to Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) for a business trip, and visited the "West Edmonton Mall". At that time they had the biggest shopping mall in the world (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Edmonton_Mall). There was a joke back then... "The Canadian Navy has 2 submarines... the West Edmonton Mall has 3.... "
Yah... things have changed a bit. But when we need to, we can still kick arse.

Gee Tony ... didn't see your post pre-edit. That wouldn't have been a shot, would it ?? From you??? NEVER!!!
Chill dude... everything's cool. Just don't be disrespectful. Real people lost real lives, while trying to help others and improve the world. Don't even try to say that the colors someone wore, or what flag they flew, made their role or sacrifice more important than anyone else's. The great equalizer is : people of many flags died fighting for a common freedom. Everyone who died paid the same price, as did their families, regardless of the national anthem they might sing.

no it wasn't a shot...I'd asked if it was a Corvette with 3' 50's then seen the link at the bottom. And read the ship's history.
And thanks for thinkin' I'd take a shot at a real H.M.C.S. and your Navy's history and unneeded the lecture.

Sorry Tony... you tend to have 'strong' nationalistic opinions, and your normal response it to shoot first and ask questions later (or not)... so I guess I was a bad person and assumed you were doing the same here based on your "edited by me.. my bad". Sounded like a heavy duty retraction, since you rarely apologize. If it was just a correction as you indicate, would have thought you would just re-write without apology attached.
Hope we can get back to happy thoughts! We're on the same side.

I have very strong National feelings. But know the history of our true Allies and Friends for that I also have great respect.
and as for a apology never for defending my Country as you shouldn't yours and for my conservative/constructionist point of view never, The way I see to many in our country have. And that's why we're where we are. More of us need to take a stand. And stand behind what we believe.

CaptainM, my memory escapes me on the name but is that the ship that was in Toronto for many years? She's been gone from there for a while but I thought I heard that she went out your way somewhere, maybe Hamilton?

That's the one. The Haida was moved from Toronto (Ontario Place), to Hamilton, and is now docked at the Naval Reserve base. It is open a museum now.

That is it BigD
it was at Ontario Place and is now in Hamilton
the pic Captaimaniac posted up is the same one
Ontario Place was being built and the Provincial government decided to take over the ship and make it an integral part of the park. She was towed here in 1970, and opened as a feature attraction at Ontario Place where she remained until 2002. In that year the ship was purchased by Parks Canada and taken to Port Weller near St. Catherines, Ontario for a much needed re-fit. In 2003, she was towed to Hamilton Harbour where she continues as a National Historic Site

Open from mid May until October some time. If you are going to drop by, let me know roughly when - my marina is about 2 minutes away.
