All thats left is the survey
After two years, thousands of miles by air and car, looking at several boats, and two buyers contracts(with deposits) I have a deal hammered out. The last hoop to get through is the survey which happens this Thursday 11/4/2010. If the boat checks out I will be the proud owner of a 1989 11 Meter International Express
As some of you folks know I've been looking for a while. I really "wanted" diesels but couldn't justify them so I "settled' for 454s with low hours. Besides that she seems to have everything we wanted. I'll keep ya posted

Boat was surveyed yesterday. I don't have the written report yet but surveyer says everything works, it's been well maintained, and for a 21 year old boat she's in good shape... He says put her in the water and "drive it home "
It looks like I may have FINALLY found "the one".
Will post details as I get them.
I don't know if I'm happy I found a boat, or sad I 'm spending money

It aint over, till it's over.....
D-Day: War's over, man. Wormer dropped the big one.
Bluto: What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!
Otter: Germans?
Boon: Forget it, he's rolling.
Bluto: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the going gets tough . . . the tough get going. Who's with me? Let's Go! Come on! AAAAEEEEEGGGHHHH!! [Bluto runs out of the room alone; then returns] What the **** happened to the Delta I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Bluto, we might get in trouble." Well just kiss my ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this. Wormer, he's a dead man! Marmalard, dead! Niedermeyer...

a one time oil analysis tell you little or nothing at all plus most surveyors would not have a clue what the data means .
Compression tests can be a useful tool if the engines missing , if they are running smooth the can worry you over nothing .
Find the compression specs for a cummins there is none .
I have never done ether one on any boat ( or car ) I have bought , Now a good trained ear will tell you a lot more ,Luck i have one and never been burnt

I would alway get an oil analysis on engine/trans myself. They send them off and the surveyor doesn't have to know anything anyway - you read the oil analysis yourself.
Compression on a Cummins ????
Cummins 6BTA compression ratio is 17:1, but Cummins doesn't publish a pressure. 17:1 normally aspirated does work out to 17*14.7 = 250PSI. Add in a turbo, and take out some leakage for old age, and you've got 200-300PSI.
but this is a 454 gasser ... 110+ PSI or so is good.
